Seismic Hazard Analysis

Seismic hazard analysis (SHA) has become the basis for urban planning and earthquake-resistant design of both onshore and offshore structures. GEAmb applies a probabilistic approach that accounts for uncertainties in both data and mathematical models, thus allowing the quantification of the degree of confidence in the proposed solutions.

GEAmb’s services in this field include:

  • Compilation of earthquake catalogues and seismotectonic studies
  • Characterization of earthquake sources (i.e., faults) and definition of seismogenic zonations
  • Logic tree probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) and hazard deaggregation
  • Definition of seismic input (i.e., suite of earthquake time histories) for dynamic analyses

Major Experiences

  • Deaggregation of the Italian seismic hazard
  • Seismic hazard analysis for different nuclear power plants in Italy and Indonesia
  • Seismic hazard analysis for a thermal power plant in Venezuela
  • Seismic hazard studies for pipelines and gas/oil fields in the Baltic Sea and South China Sea
  • Seismic hazard analysis of the Liguria Region for site classification
